Northwest Passage

January 20, 2014

Today marks the 68th birthday of director David Lynch, and what better way to celebrate than to offer up a taste of my coming, yet-to-be-titled EP? Entitled Northwest Passage, the track was heavily inspired by the cult TV series Twin Peaks, so I figured today was pretty fitting to upload it. Using footage from the pilot episode – hence the song title, natch! – with some choice cuts from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me I think it turned out pretty okay. Check it out and spread the word

Speaking of which: You heard the news that has every ‘Peaks fan going gaga right now that Lynch is back in the Pacific Northwest shooting new footage for the series? I’m not too sure if this means that the final, third season will see the light of day or it’s just additional (promo) footage. Still, it’s pretty exciting, no?

Seher Mahabra

September 22, 2012

Well, I might not be able to pronounce her name correctly but Seher Mahabra‘s self-titled album is a truly great electronica record offering up an eerily perfect blend of classic 60s sounds and the trippy beats of today. Add her sublime vocal style to the mix and you got yourself (yet another Twin Peaks-esque) winner! I heard it at a friend’s house last night and I’ve been obsessing over it all day. Check her out on Bandcamp here.

Mashup II

September 5, 2012

Wow! I recently wrote about G3RSt‘s cool Bob Marley/Green Day mashup Get Up Hitch A Ride (check it out here), but Joey Propeller‘s mashup of Booker T & The MG’s classic Green Onions and Donna Summer‘s I Feel Love is just a haunting, weird oddity that immediately got me hooked! Sounds like something that’d fit great in say Twin Peaks. Check it out twice!

Even though I can’t find much information about this Joey character – email me if you have any information – but back in 2008 he did a pretty cool mix of Velvet Underground‘s Venus in Furs and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell‘s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. And again with weird, eerie results. Check it out:
