Well, I already wrote about this band on TapeMix (check it out here), but the Vancouver outfit White Lung is just great mixing up gloomy post-punk with some at times hardcore energy so I thought I’d mention them here too. The video Take The Mirror is taken from their second full-length album Sorry and you can get it via their Bandcamp here. Check ’em out!

Australian musician Jamie Coghill isn’t just a talented multi-instrumentalist but a pretty cool guy to boot. I stumbled across his Bandcamp earlier this year, spent days listening to his Glamour & Fame album before writing a piece about it on my TapeMix site. Now, with that becoming a column in CRKO Magazine later on this year (where I pretty much pick the creme de la creme of my findings posted on the blog) I decided to interview him and was pleasantly surprised to find him a friendly, down-to-earth kinda guy who’s at least as passionate about music as I am.
Anyway, if 60’s flavored pop is your forte, I seriously doubt it gets any better than this. Releasing music under the Jimmy C moniker he’s got a handful of records available, but you should definitely give the 2009 album a try! The video for Bad Wolf – fittingly written, directed, shot, and edited by Jamie himself – is just a tiny taste of what this guy is capable of, so do yourself a favor and check it out here.
Well, I wrote about this New Zealand discovery on TapeMix – Best of Bandcamp yesterday, but if you don’t follow it (why not?) The Opposite Sex is a pretty odd trio blending French ye-ye pop with classic ’77 artpunk, sugary sweet vocal delivery and tons of waltz. Truly a unique band with a sound completely their own, their self titled debut album was released in late 2011 and you should definitely check them out! Visit their Bandcamp at: http://oppositesex.bandcamp.com/
US podcast show The Bull Pit recently aired The Cymatics demo of One Way Ticket among other tracks. Run by Bull Lee Media they offer a pretty nice blend of underground music. Check out the show here, and you’ll find their official website here.
In other news, my new website TapeMix is already getting its fair share of readers – cool! The only drawback being I’m now really wishing I was a millionaire so I could start up my own record label and sign all these great bands.
Well, it is quite subjective but I just started up a second blog called TapeMix – Best of Bandcamp where I share all the cool music you can find on Bandcamp these days. Not a small order considering there’s almost half a million albums available now!
I’ll try to update as often as possible, so check it out if you’re a curious musiclover like myself!
