Sound City – out now!

February 4, 2013

Well, it was announced this past Friday that David Grohl‘s documentary Sound City has been released and will screen at theatres up until March 1st. Not only that, but the album Sound City – Real to Reel is also available on iTunes and features tracks from a wide spectrum of artists such as Josh Homme, Lee Ving and Paul McCartney among others.

Now, the film can be streamed and downloaded in HD for the sum of $12,99 but I personally prefer to get the physical copies once it has been released on DVD. The album costs $9,99. More info via the official website here.

Sound City Official Trailer

December 5, 2012

Well, Roswell Films just released the trailer for David Grohl‘s upcoming documentary Sound City – a film that mainly focus on the legendary L.A. studio, but also seems to share a love and affection for music and creativity (after all it’s David Grohl we’re talking about!)

Tons of people from all kinds of musical genres share their anecdotes – I already mentioned the Musical Memories bits here – and it looks like this could be a nice film for audiophiles as well as music fans. More news coming via the official website.

Musical Memories

October 17, 2012

Here’s a nice little feature from Dave Grohl‘s upcoming documentary Sound City: Musical Memories – artists and producers sharing their earliest memory of the events that got them into music. There’s 20+ of them now including Joe Barresi, Rick Nielsen, Lee Ving, Weezer, and Tom Petty among others. Pretty neat!

Available as a playlist on the official YouTube channel the first interview starts here. I wrote about this earlier here.

Sound City

September 20, 2012

Well, speaking of Dave Grohl and documentaries I just found out about him working on one right now: Sound City! In his own words the film is about “the truth, the craft and the integrity of rock and roll” and documents the story of legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles where tons of artists have recorded their albums over the years – including Nirvana‘s Nevermind. Dave is directing as well as producing this.

Lots of interviews – Lee Ving, Pat Smear and John Fogerty to name just a few – and if you’re a bit of a tech or music nerd this could be pretty interesting. Produced by Roswell Films I couldn’t find a release date for it, but keep an eye out on their official page here and Facebook here.
