This is making its round on the ‘Net right now. Pure brilliance!

Jimmy C

January 27, 2012

Australian musician Jamie Coghill isn’t just a talented multi-instrumentalist but a pretty cool guy to boot. I stumbled across his Bandcamp earlier this year, spent days listening to his Glamour & Fame album before writing a piece about it on my TapeMix site. Now, with that becoming a column in CRKO Magazine later on this year (where I pretty much pick the creme de la creme of my findings posted on the blog) I decided to interview him and was pleasantly surprised to find him a friendly, down-to-earth kinda guy who’s at least as passionate about music as I am.

Anyway, if 60’s flavored pop is your forte, I seriously doubt it gets any better than this.  Releasing music under the Jimmy C moniker he’s got a handful of records available, but you should definitely give the 2009 album a try! The video for Bad Wolf – fittingly written, directed, shot, and edited by Jamie himself – is just a tiny taste of what this guy is capable of, so do yourself a favor and check it out here.

Well, there’s always time for a first I guess. I was recently asked by the guys at the Megawatts radio show in France to record a jingle. It turned out pretty good after a couple of takes.

Trailer of the Year

January 23, 2012

Wow! This made me laugh out loud – What if Disney made Jaws? Nothing short of brilliant.

More cool US retro-hardcore is offered up by Los Angeles’ four-piece Fidlar on their debut 7″ EP DIYDUI released in 2011. Way more garage than other outfits like OFF! or Cerebral Ballzy, they bring to mind a mix of FEAR and The Spider Babies, with maybe some early Dwarves (circa Horror Stories-era) thrown in. The opening track Wake Bake Skate is a future classic – check ’em out!

More Airplay

January 20, 2012

Well, the new version of the One Way Ticket demo I recorded for The Cymatics hit the US coast earlier in January. Again, it’s Mike at WUSB in Stony Brook, New York that was kind enough to air it on The Rock and Roll Dance Party. Available as a free download, you can check out the complete show here (the song appears around 1 hr 25 mins into the show).

Taken from the 4-track Riot 2012! EP released on Bandcamp you can download here.

Norliss Tapes 2!

January 20, 2012

Well, more songs are coming together in the project, so I spent an hour editing a second teaser. Six songs in total now, and I’m actually contemplating if we should try to make it a full length album.

Protect IP/SOPA

January 18, 2012

On January 18, 2012, sites all over the internet will be blacking out to protest and try to mobilize more people to speak out against this bill coming up in the US Senate next week — S. 968: the Protect IP Act (PIPA) — in an attempt to let U.S. lawmakers know how much opposition there is. is making it possible for you to participate in the protest. There are two options: a “Stop Censorship” ribbon and a full blackout. The blackout portion will be in effect January 18 from 8am to 8pm EST, while the ribbon will be displayed until January 24. Here’s how to join in:

1: Go to Settings → Protest SOPA/PIPA in your dashboard.
2: Select if you want to join the blackout or show a ribbon.
3: If you choose to join the blackout, you can edit the message that will be shown on your site during the blackout.
4: Preview what your protest will look like.
5: Click “Save Changes” button to activate your protest.

Found this on YouTube. Funny as hell and covering some of the Photoshop trickery that’s used these days in media.

The Norliss Tapes

January 11, 2012

Well, I’m finally getting some tracks finished for my sideproject The Norliss Tapes. Fans of 70’s horror should recognize the name ’cause it was the title of the second made-for-TV horror film by the same producers that gave the world Kolchak – The Night Stalker.

Still waiting for some tracks from my collaborator – we’re pretty much editing songs and emailing them back and forth, adding samples and instruments – and I’m pretty excited about the whole thing. The clip is a little teaser for the upcoming release that I hope will be made available in February. The track is called Rum Rum Rum (version).
