New Artwork (2)!

December 30, 2011

Well, I recently submitted four tracks for DIRECTV‘s upcoming Gone Until December documentary about surfing in Australia. No word yet if they wanna use ’em, but I kinda liked getting reaquainted to The Dialtones‘ old punkstramental Riot!, so I figured I’d make this version available on my Bandcamp along with the other tracks. The art is obviously pretty much inspired by that track and combines surfing with rioting pretty nicely I think, ha ha ha. Check it out at http://magnussellergren.bandcamp.com/album/riot-2012

New artwork!

December 30, 2011

Well, this isn’t “work” per se, but I’ve been hassling this guy that re-releases cool ol’ splatter/horror gems etc on DVD about letting me do art for him (just because it’d be SO damn cool!), but he’s been kinda indecisive. So I finally put this together in order to show him what I could do, used an old movie poster as a reference and mailed it to him. The day after he sent me an email telling me he loved it and that we’re beginning work in January. Just to be clear – this is NOT an actual release!

It might not be high art (like anybody who’s not confused would ever want to be!), but The Toolbox Murders is just classic kinetic sleaze and one of my personal faves. The trailer (as well as the movie!) is not for sensitive people (18+ kiddies!), but if you can stomach it – check it out:

Kodak Moment (2)!

December 30, 2011

Well, with my songwriting duties for The Cymatics being on hold at least ’til spring 2012 I of course immediately started a new project. Needing artwork for the upcoming release (and the name is COOLEST EVER btw!) I had no ideas as usual, so I just hooked up the ol’ Infrared at home and blasted away with my cheap digital camera. Logos etc. will be added later on when the music itself is finished. Not too shabby!

Kodak Moment

Well, I’m not that big a’ fan of Metallica anyways, but the first time I heard Lulu my damn jaw hit the floor. I usually love outsider music (and especially the old movie variation like Ed Wood‘s ouvre), but their collaboration with Lou Reed is something that never should’ve left the studio ’cause it’s just plain awful. Found this pic on the ‘Net.

Merry X-Mas!

December 22, 2011

Well, I’m off for a couple of days to enjoy the holidays. See y’all on Tuesday!

UPDATE: For those looking for a more punk rock flavor during the festivities, check out The Angry Snowmans two albums on Bandcamp. Classic US Hardcore/Punk hits redone X-Mas style!

Just sent off the design for The Cymatics first tour t-shirt to the printer. Pretty basic one-color meant to be printed in dozens of different color variations.

Funny

Got this from the net. Something tells me there’s a lot of kids out there these days that actually have no idea what the hell this is.

More Airplay

December 19, 2011

US podcast show The Bull Pit recently aired The Cymatics demo of One Way Ticket among other tracks. Run by Bull Lee Media they offer a pretty nice blend of underground music. Check out the show here, and you’ll find their official website here.

In other news, my new website TapeMix is already getting its fair share of readers – cool! The only drawback being I’m now really wishing I was a millionaire so I could start up my own record label and sign all these great bands.

Kodak Moment

December 16, 2011

Whoof! X-Mas came early and through the mail yesterday! Just look at this package I received from No Balls Records as a “thanks” for doing the Vagora/Darrow Chemical Company Halloween split pic-disc 7″ back in October! Wow! We’re talking 3 CD’s and the same amount of 7″s, a 10″ EP plus a pic disc LP  from The Undead featuring Bobby Steele (ex-Misfits) (who’s first 7″ EP Nine Toes Later is a horror punk classic I might add – check it out!), the latest 10″ from The Dwarves, one album plus a 7″ from Electric Frankenstein, the new 4-song EP from Mondo Generator, and more 7″s from Joey Image, Adam West plus the new album from Borracho!

I don’t know what it is with receiving records in the mail that makes me feel like a kid all over again. Maybe it’s just plain nostalgia ’cause you might not believe this kids, but there was a time when you couldn’t buy cool records any other way.  You’ve been spoiled by the internet and visiting record stores where the guy behind the counter actually has a clue, ha ha ha. Anyway, speaking of The Undead; here’s my fave track off their EP:

Kris Idol

December 15, 2011

Just received a message from Stefan at No Balls Records in Germany, and thought I’d share it. Kris Idol of punk bands The Chelsea Arms, Trashed Idols and Time Again recently (and unexpectedly) passed away in his home town of Los Angeles. In order to raise some money to his family and loved ones, Mike at Black Cat Records in France is auctioning off some rare test pressings on eBay. Check them out at http://www.ebay.com/sch/mikael7266/m.html?hash=item2a16efb308&item=180773434120&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&_trksid=p4340.l2562.

You’ll find more info about Kris on his site at Reverbnation and Black Cat Records here.
