The Man Who Never Dub

I just received a heads up from Aussie musician The Jimmy C that the The Man Who Never Dies EP has been released on his Bandcamp today! Eight tracks in total it includes the three separate mixes I did of the title track – that also appears on the Orbital Debris album – with five bonus tracks.

Like I already wrote I did one basic remix of the track, one alt. mix that offers a bit more structural changes and one final Dub mix that, well, as I bluntly stated before, “f**cked with it”. That last one was actually funny to see added as I was totally convinced it was too “out there” for inclusion.

Other tracks include the hilarious Tracky Dacks – which I guess is the Australian phrase for “sweat pants” – that opens with the funniest damn lyrics I’ve heard in ages: “I know you must feel comfortable but it looks like you have given up on life…” All in all yet another great release from Jamie, so make sure you check it out, and for your consideration, the dub version of the title track:

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Rescue Sandra West…

Hey kids, new week and time for another episode of The Adventures of Superseven and Sandra West! This, their 30th, is entitled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Rescue Sandra West and features a pretty damn epic fight scene – over four minutes long!

There’s some nice, tight editing in this one and I think Robert Griffith did a great job with it. Got some nice tracks from Call Me Greenhorn as well with Ooky Pt.2 and the all-new Superseven Fight Theme Vers. 2 making its debut, plus some cool tracks by Aussie musician The Jimmy C – including his brand new Sandra West Theme.

Speaking of the series I was glad to see them announcing that their campaign on Kickstarter was successful with an extra $1,000 raised for the project. So congrats to them and congrats to the funders as they’ve got a free download of the They Call Me Superseven OST coming their way. If you haven’t, make sure to check it out on Bandcamp and share, share, share away!

Mr. Someone

Check it out: Aussie musician Jamie Coghill aka The Jimmy C just released the first of this year’s coming two EPs! Titled Mr. Someone it features the single version of the title track with seven bonus songs – all in the more or less the same vein as his recently-released Orbital Debris album.

Like I already wrote, the vibe of his new album differs from the great Glamour & Fame album and delivers some tunage that reminds me of The Kinks‘ circa Face to Face period. This release offers some nice jangly pop with darker edges plus the occasional quirky track. Check it out and visit him on Facebook too!

Superseven – Operation High Tension

Holy moly, make sure to check out the latest episode of The Adventures of Superseven and Sandra West because it’s great! Titled Operation High Tension it’s a new format for the show with tighter shots, faster pace, nice editing and just chock full of new music from both me (as Call Me Greenhorn) as well as The Jimmy C.

Great show all in all, with some new faces and there’s four – count ‘em, four! – new tracks from the coming They Call Me Superseven OST album. As they appear (and out soon, hint hint): Say UNCLE, Ooky Pt. 1, Swizzle Stick and T.H.E.M. Distress Signal. Check it out!

Duck Art – Let’s Dance

Artist unknown, public domain.

Artist unknown, public domain.

This is too funny: Sent to me via Aussie musician The Jimmy C – who’s also a graphic designer – we have proof that a duck actually is an instrument! I kept telling him and I’m satisfied there’s finally some proof to back up that statement. Now, if he just stopped asking me how you tune the damn thing. I won’t tell but I’ll let you in on a secret: The trick is in the thumb.

Speaking of duck rock: Here’s Call Me Greenhorn‘s Squawky!. It’s silly. Check it out.

Pimping My Sh*t

Yeah, so while busying myself with finishing up a ton of stuff right now I also took a short break to finish up a sort of made-for-social-network advertisement for Call Me Greenhorn‘s 2013 releases. And I’m pretty damn impressed by the sheer output once I sat down and collected ‘em all into one place.

Anyway, if you got a minute to spare I sure as heck would appreciate you taking the time to share this .png on your Facebook or G+ page with the text below. And if you spam the shit out of it do a darn good job spreading the word I promise I’ll make it worth your while! Share the pic, copy and paste the text below. Thanks!

My my, it’s gonna be a most productive ol’ 2013! Slated for release – with a chance for a couple of bonus goodies – we’ve got the following stuff ready for release. Check it out and please share!

IN SPACE EP: Six track synth-ish EP inspired by general space geekiness. Features the rough-mix of the title track that will appear on the S/T full length.

ARMAGEDDON DUB: Two dub tracks deemed “too dark” for inclusion on the S/T full length. Features guest appearances of Australian musician The Jimmy C and The New York Brass. Heady and heavy!

THEY CALL ME SUPERSEVEN: Seventeen tracks written for and inspired by the The Adventures of Superseven and Sandra West web series/feature. Very 60s sounding. Very loud. With some xylophones too!

CHASING THE DAWN EP: Three 80′s sounding tracks written specifically for an upcoming feature film set in 1980s Los Angeles. Think Carpenter, ninjas and neon.

CALL ME GREENHORN 2 EP: aka ‘The Abandoned Project’. A total of eleven tracks written and recorded throughout 2012 (and 2013!) that were scrapped in favor for the new material created with more up-to-date equipment. Plunderphonics meets the kitchen sink! Features appearances by The New York Brass.

S/T: Currently in the works, this is technically the second full length from this solo project. Features all kinds of sounds ranging from garage to dub to Kraftwerkian beats. Guest appearances from all over the damn planet!

L´ISOLA DEI MORTI VIVENTI: Ever heard of Fabrizio Ardente‘s ZOMBIES: Island of the Living Dead? Don’t feel bad if you don’t ’cause it never existed. Inspired by the late 70′s synth sounds created by Fabio Frizzi for Lucio Fulci‘s cult classic Zombie Flesh Eaters, this faux-OST will feature songs imagined for a gory, Italian-produced video nasty circa 1982. Currently in the works it’s most likely to turn out as an 8-song EP.

Anyway, I’m heading back to the lab. Cheers!

Armageddon Dub: Update #2

copyright Sellergren Design 2013!

copyright Sellergren Design 2013!

Yeah, things are moving along somewhat satisfactory at Camp Sellergren (more info about that when it’s been solved), and in the mean time I actually managed to put out a bonus release: Call Me Greenhorn‘s Armageddon Dub! Yup, the track was initially posted in it’s raw form on my SoundCloud some time ago, and even though my sentiments about it hasn’t changed a bit – it’s just too damn dark! – I gave it a spin and decided it worthy of release, albeit on it’s own and those who feel they can take it can feel free to do so. I still love what I achieved with it and the extra beef in its production is a result of getting heavy with that crazy Russian VST Molot.

Now, I already written about how this song came about – read it again here – so I’ll focus on the second track Trinity (Once Upon a Dub) that spent a good time just collecting dust on my computer. Starting out with some great drum fills The Jimmy C sent me, I set out to do a mix of heavy 70′s Jamaican dub and a sort of tribute to 1960′s Italian spaghetti westerns. (Yeah, I thought it sounded insane too, ha ha ha!) Anyway, add some great Lee Perry-esque horns courtesy The New York Brass – I just had to phase them! – and there ya go! The intro is pretty cool and really throws you off as it progresses into something completely different than what you’d initially expect.

The sleeve was actually quite simple to create. Immediately wanting to do something along the lines of the iconic graphics used by The Clash for their great batch of 7″ singles released between their first and second album (FYI: Complete Control, (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais, Clash City Rockers + the 1979 The Cost of Living EP), I googled ‘ruins’, ‘Armageddon’ (boy, is that movie popular!) and finally found some WWII photos on Wikipedia that looked fitting. Considered to be in the public domain, I made a collage out of various bombed out buildings etc., and wrapped it all up by adding the similar sort of crazy color schemes and fonts used by the band.

Now, I am aware that Dub is an assorted taste, but personally I love it and think it’s a damn unique art form or musical genre as it is the only one to my knowledge where the mixing console itself becomes the main instrument. The concept spans the world these days, but remixing actually has its roots in what geniuses like King Tubby and The Scientist were creating in make shift Jamaican studios throughout the 1970′s – in Tubby’s case using equipment he built himself! – so if you’re the slightest curious about this phenomena please do check them out!

Anyway, available via my Bandcamp so check it out here, and I uploaded a taste on my SoundCloud here, so spread the word and share if you like it. The single:

Heads I Win, Tails You Die!

Yay! Just received a heads up from director Robert Griffith that the fifth season of The Adventures of Superseven and Sandra West just kicked off with episode 28 named Operation: Heads I Win, Tails You Die! featuring some great musical work courtesy The Jimmy C as well as my recent additions Ooky Pt.1 and Superseven Chase Theme (coming soon on a soundtrack album near you, hint hint.)

This looks great and I think the increase in amounts of music used actually adds nicely to the overall viewing experience – especially the fight sequence with Olivia Dunkley! And I thought it was pretty funny putting Jamie’s Eulogy off his recent Orbital Debris album as a sign-off. Check it out and feel free to share!
