The Art of Remz

If memory serves me correct I was hepped to the kick-ass artwork of Remz Di Maggio – aka The Art of Remz – via members of French punk band The Rebel Assholes during a 2011 European tour. French-born but living in Kinrooi, Belgium this self-taught illustrator picked up his ‘hobby’ as an escape from the boredom of school, found himself enjoying it so much he started to develop his skills and today he’s done work for bands and clubs all over the world – including US power pop musician Kurt Baker.

Heavy on the retro influences he’s admittedly a big fan of US genius artist Shag, but I’d say he definitely has carved out a niche to call his own. There are some really great pieces to be seen on his Facebook page (where you’ll also find contact info if you wanna commission something), so make sure you check him out and show him your support!

More awesome news that I had confirmed yesterday: The second installment of Sal Canzonieri‘s book Electric Frankenstein, compiling posters and record sleeves made for them during the period of  June 2005 to December 2013, will feature some of my work as well. Out in 2014 I’d guess on Dark Horse Books. You can get the first book on Amazon.com here, and in the UK here.

Last Minute Gift Ideas

December 12, 2012

copyright The Lucky Mule!

Well, as it is December 12th we’re halfway to X-Mas (though you yanks and Brits oddly enough celebrate it on the 25th) you might wanna finish up what shopping you’ve got left, and for some nice threads for the whole dang family my pal Courtney at The Lucky Mule is once again offering a cool 15% holiday discount on all his merchandise. Men’s wear, women’s wear, stuff for the kids etc – any fan of all things r&r will find something cool. And if you’re into collecting rock posters he’s also offering some awesome (and rare!) work by such greats as Frank Kozik, Mitch O’Connell and Alan Forbes.

I’ve already stated it before, this guy does quality work on quality t-shirts. This is not some cheap throw-away crap that’ll turn into a ball of yarn after one spin in the washer. He designed and printed the tour t-shirts when The Dialtones toured in the U.S. back in 2000 and I got mine at home and it still looks great. So check out his page at www.luckymule.com, click away and type in ‘HUMBUGGERY’ at the check out to receive the discount. And tell him I sent ya!

(Yet More) Posters

March 22, 2012

Well, I’ve been digging through the “archives” a lot lately unearthing lots of stuff I just plain forgot ever having made! Didn’t think I was that prolific, but there ya go. This poster was made for Mexican deathmetal outfit Ultratumba (who I later made two CD sleeves for), but if my memory serves me correct this wasn’t a gig poster per se as much as a promotional thing for the band. Looks pretty cool and I definitely remember this as one of the first works I did trying out using as few colors as possible.

There’s tons of unused artwork, sketches etc. left and right now I’m actually contemplating throwing them out there for bands, labels, zines etc. to use because that’s my main focus when it comes to my work, getting it out there. Still haven’t made up my mind yet but I’m sure I’ll post something later on about it.

New Poster!

March 21, 2012

Well, not exactly. Here’s yet more artwork from the “archives”. This poster was done back in 2009 for the now-defunct promotors Warriors Växjö that organized various punk- and hardcore shows in my home town. We collaborated for at least a year – actually I think it was closer to two – and I loved working for these guys because they pretty much gave me free reign when it came to the designs.

I remember going to the show (on account of my own outfit playing that night) and the Linköping band Restless Knights completely blew me away. Amazing 90s styled hardcore with a heavy (pun intended) Poison Idea influence. The track below is taken from their I Wish I Was a Terrorist CD EP, available for free via their Bandcamp. Check it out here!

(Yet More) Posters

December 13, 2011

So, I’m still digging through the “archives” and finding more stuff to upload, including some early work from 2008 (like a cassette sleeve made for local noise outfit Miljoner Döda). As I stated the last time I’ll keep uploading every now and then, so make sure to check back often.

This time we’ve got more Electric Frankenstein, some local stuff, plus The Dwarves (including Blag‘s acoustic solo tour in April 2009), and The Kung Fu Killers.

New Link

December 2, 2011

More peeps with really cool jobs! Tom Hodge at The Dude Designs not only have good movie taste – spot the Big Lebowski reference? – he also does some really good stuff for video and dvd-releases as well as classic posters! Odds are if you’re into genre movies you’ve already seen some of his work! Modern stuff like Hobo With a Shotgun and the very Meyers-esque Pervert! but also classic stuff like Savage Streets starring Linda Blair! Check it out here!

More Posters

December 1, 2011

Finally am having some spare time to go through my old posters and adding some of them on this site – for a complete portfolio check out my site on Facebook – but it’ll probably take some time ’cause I’ve got them burned on various CD-R’s and apparently I’m not a really organized guy, ha ha ha.

There’s some nice stuff to be seen pretty soon, including Electric Frankenstein and The Bulemics. Check back often!

Kodak Moment (squared)

November 17, 2011

It’s already X-Mas in my inbox! Got the first photo emailed to me from Ana at Dead by Mono Records today. Looks really neat and the label is really stoked about it! Second photo was sent from Stefan at No Balls Records in Germany. The split Halloween 7″ pic disc I made the art for is out and he’s equally stoked by my work. Looks like I’ve got me some pretty cool packages coming in the mail pretty soon!
