Here’s a nice little feature from Dave Grohl‘s upcoming documentary Sound City: Musical Memories – artists and producers sharing their earliest memory of the events that got them into music. There’s 20+ of them now including Joe Barresi, Rick Nielsen, Lee Ving, Weezer, and Tom Petty among others. Pretty neat!

Well, speaking of Dave Grohl and documentaries I just found out about him working on one right now: Sound City! In his own words the film is about “the truth, the craft and the integrity of rock and roll” and documents the story of legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles where tons of artists have recorded their albums over the years – including Nirvana‘s Nevermind. Dave is directing as well as producing this.
Lots of interviews – Lee Ving, Pat Smear and John Fogerty to name just a few – and if you’re a bit of a tech or music nerd this could be pretty interesting. Produced by Roswell Films I couldn’t find a release date for it, but keep an eye out on their official page here and Facebook here.

Great move by Dave Grohl to give a nice push for the project (it’s pretty clear that unlike some other musicians he never forgot his roots), and checking the page on Kickstarter earlier today I was pleasantly surprised to see that the generated sum for the project has risen from about $3000 yesterday to a whopping $14000+ today! Yay!

UPDATE: Yeah, well, I just had to join in on this. The trailers look great, and there’s an amazing line-up of people being interviewed so I’ve got a good feeling about it!
